Big data in ecology for
understanding the responses
of wildlife to global change
Welcome! We are a brand new research group based in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Natural Resources at Rutgers University- New Brunswick
We combine big ecological datasets (e.g., citizen science), remote sensing data, geospatial tools, and quantitative techniques including machine learning.
Our big question:
How is global change impacting wildlife distributions, phenology, movement, behavior, and biodiversity across regions, seasons and species?
We also explore how and why species have shifted their geographic ranges under climate change, and how to best predict future shifts
We often think about how short-term disturbance impacts wildlife species occurrence, behavior and movement
We engage in public outreach including bird walks with the public across central NJ
Wildlife photography is available to anyone for figures, covers and talks, and has been published in National Geographic books, a variety of newspapers, and has appeared on 15 scientific journal covers.
